So this past weekend, I started up my Netflix account again. I haven’t had it for 3 years, but they still let me do the 2-week free trial — same mailing address and everything. Pretty cool, huh?
The plan I chose was $8.99/month for unlimited DVDs, but only one at a time.
PROS
- Lots of movies (more than 100,000)
- Movies include documentaries, workout, stand-up
- “Watch Now” movies (for unlimited plans only)
- Less than $10/month for unlimited DVDs
- XBOX Live integration
- Windows Media Center Integration (kind of, but see below)
- “Watch Now” movies available via website (which means I can access them on any computer w/ an internet connection)
- Recommendations (via your previous rating + preferences)
- Las Vegas distribution center
CONS
- Not enough “Watch Now” movies (only 12,000 they say)
- Netflix Windows Media Center still doesn’t work for me
I am super in love so far. I have watched Ferngully via my boyfriend’s XBOX Live account and the quality and sound was great. But remember, you will need a Gold XBOX Live account in order to watch the movies.
Setting up Netflix for WMC was a pain in the butt! Seriously… All the blogs I read stated that it would “just show up”, but it didn’t… Even after the PC was completely updated. I found a link that was posted where you could install the Netflix plug-in. Here it is: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=147175&clcid=0×409. (Note: Clicking the link will automatically pull up a download. Unzip and then install.) Please note that this still didn’t work for me!
There are other options for accessing Netflix on Windows Media Center, such as MyNetflixPlugin and vmNetflix. I wish you all the luck that I didn’t have.
Note: I will be logging how long it takes for me to receive my DVDs so that I can give you a heads up on the service.
Note: I also sent a Blockbuster DVD and a Netflix DVD at the same time. Blockbuster received their DVD faster, even though both locations are in Vegas.
